These all have different formats FWIW. They tend to try and protect the better teams with home court or byes. The Missouri valley is the only straight neutral site event on that list. The Ohio valley doesn’t have Murray and Belmont play until the semifinalsComment -

Murray State put themselves on the map when they knocked off NC State in the first round of the big tournament in '88, in round two they gave Kansas (eventual champs) a good game
Then they created a big buzz in '95 when they came inches away from upsetting Dean Smith and North Carolina in the NCAA tournament.
Few years ago, Ja Morant's Murray State's team croaked Marquette.
Mutilated them.
I remember that game vividly, it was played here, up the road in Hartford.
Tickets were impossible.
Morant had a rare triple/double that tournament game, he was also the first ever in NCAA history to average 20/10 in a season.
He's doing just fine in the NBA now too you can say.
Murray State has been a force in the OVC for 1/4 century.
I don't think you can consider them a fad anymore, probably the most successful mid-major of out generation.Comment -
