#37No, he's not on Lawrence Taylor's level. The tight end position exists because Lawrence Taylor couldn't be blocked normally.Comment -

#45Here is my starting Defensive 11 w/ a few asterisks:
1) From the Super Bowl era. So, excluding guys like Chuck Bednarik and Night Train Lane.
2) Excluding active players. B/c their careers have not yet been completed.
3) Assuming 4-3 Base defense.
DE - Reggie White
DT - Bob Lilly
DT - Joe Greene
DE - Bruce Smith
OLB (rush) - Lawrence Taylor
MLB - Dick Butkus
OLB (coverage) - Jack Ham
CB - Mel Blount
S - Ed Reed
S - Ronnie Lott
CB - Herb Adderley
Commentary:
*I think the Def Ends are pretty easy. Smith is the all-time NFL SACK LEADER. If you include Reggie's USFL sacks...he pushes past Bruce.
*Re: Defensive Tackles, Alan Page rates amazingly high. He somehow won the LEAGUE MVP as a Def Tackle. Imagine a Defensive Tackle doing that today. I don't want this to sound like a shot on the Purple People Eaters...but the Chiefs/Steelers/Raiders/Dolphins figured out a way to block them by using their aggression against them.
*I think Joe Greene is an easy choice at DT. Unusual athleticism for a big-man. Changed the game with his cat-quick moves.
*CB: Have to give bonus points to guy like Blount. So physical that they had to change the rules to prevent WRs from getting mugged.
*On the 2nd CB, I hate Deion, just a personal bias. Adderley was an excellent DB. A good representative from a fine defense.
*Love my safety tandem. Top bill-collector in Ronnie Lott. Top playmaker in Ed Reed.
*Was tempted to list John Lynch b/c of his great instincts. Think Lott/Reed were slightly better.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#52Not the best ever. I really don't believe he's all that. So he was on a Super Bowl team.... big deal. I've seen him take games off before. Non existent. You never heard LT take a game off before or even Reggie White. Donald overrated.Comment -

Not sure Donald is in the top 5 or even top 10 all time, yet. You can argue some other defensive tackles were better and more disruptive than him.Comment -

#57Other than maybe the Patriots, who is better? They manage the cap well, make big moves, have won their division 3/5 years, been to two Superbowls and won 1, winning record past 5 years and the only year they missed the playoffs was basically due to a missed field goal.
You don't hear any crazy shit with their players and McVay gets all his assistants promoted. Classy org all the way around.
Oh and they pay their players.Comment -
