age 67 and recently was playing golf. He was a member of ny islanders and won 4 cups. He is known for beating up Dave Schultz in 75 and is a member of nhl hall of fame. I grew up on long Island and lived there most of my life. RIP

I worked with a guy who had a short stint in the NHL. One of the rules was "Don't poke the bear" referring to Gilles sometimes docile manner until agitated.

Gilles was put out there at that moment for one purpose. To set the stage for this series with Philly.

Schultz cried to the media that ''he (Gilles) was put out there to go after me''.

Gee Davey boy, whatever gave you that impression...

Islanders were an amazing team. Two quick notes:

*Ken Morrow winning the 1980 Olympic Gold w/ Team USA and then the Stanley Cup four months later w/ NYI. What a truly great Daily Double.

*Gretzky talked about being defeated by the Islanders in the final. Gretz walked into the Islander locker room to congratulate them. No celebration, just ice bags and exhaustion.

I spoke to Dave Schultz at a flyer alumni event...he said Clark gave it to him and he wasn't intimated at all by Schultz. Dave said the guy that hurt him bad was O'Reilly
