Amazing that this worked. Knoblauch imitates as if it's a Double-play grounder to 2b. Lonnie Smith buys it...costs team a World title:

Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Nice one Chuck. A side question--how on earth did we ever watch games without all the info on the screen, i.e. score, inning, number of outs, etc., etc?

I was only 10 at the time but a HUGE Braves fan that year, as everyone was in Atlanta. I remember this play though for sure.

Yes, Jacket. People talk about the Buckner gaffe in 1986. People don't remember that the tying run had already scored on the Gedman passed ball to make it 5-5. I've talked to many Boston natives, and more than half think that Buckner fields it and steps on the bag to win 5-4 (too late).

The Lonnie Smith gaffe is surely worse. You have to score on that ball. Lonnie could fly. If he maintains any speed across 2nd base, he scores easily. And that's the winning run in a scoreless game.

Tricky playing there by the Braves.

At least Lonnie had his musical career to fall back on.
