You kick the field goal. Even if you pick up the 1st down, you have to call a time-out. Then you have a couple shots into the end zone and if that doesn't work, you kick the field goal anyways.

You kick the fg. Home field advantage for the entire playoffs is huge especially in buffalo in late January. I know you hate kickers though.

If they pick up the 1st, a quick spike would've been easy enough because everyone is already at the line of scrimmage... Then you have time for a couple of slants/fades or even a run call with the timeout still in your pocket.

I dunno, it was only half a yard, I think it was a justifiable call. If they lose in overtime you have everyone saying McDermott had a chance to end it in regulation and was playing "not to lose" or lacks a "killer instinct."

They had 2 timeouts- why not try and draw them offsides once- then make a decision??

QB is 6'5" 240 and it was less than a yard, closer to 18 inches. it was the right call.

I don't know. Buffalo had no problem going right down the field on them. I would have played for OT.

I had the over and alt overs, so I am not complaining. I think their best option to win was kicking the FG and going to OT. All they had to do was stop Henry, IF the Titans won the toss.

they had 1 timeout left and Eddy you can't try to spike it after a QB sneak because everyone will be on top of Allen... soon as they say first down you call timeout and try a couple throws and if you fail you kick the FG

That’s an easy call to go for it. If you kick a fg, you risk never seeing the ball again. You gotta believe you can get an inch there and then win it. I would have been shocked if he kicked it.

It depends... I know the defenders will try to stall the spike and in that case you burn the timeout if you have to. It's kind of a judgement call at that point. But regardless, you have the slants/fades at your disposal or even a quarterback rollout to give him the option to run or pass.

the lineman got a jump on the snap because bills had their QB standing around in SHOTGUN then he quickly came down under center... he knew the quick snap was coming

Why let a coin flip potentially determine your fate though? There's a chance Allen doesn't even see the field in overtime.

Just pick up 1/2 a yard and you're in the driver's seat to end it.

I don't think it was a bad call either, really feels frankly like because it went badly people are quick to criticize - hindsight is 20/20!

I mean let's be real if they had made it and won the game because of that would people have been praising him for making that call? Or would they have said "well it's obvious you go for it there, it's only half a yard". Again, very easy to judge after the fact.

Whenever there is a call to be made for which there are two options both of which are somewhat reasonable (I certainly think this one qualifies) if the decision you make ends up badly, every armchair coach is going to be calling for your head after the fact, and that just isn't reasonable.

Again, if they had kicked it and lost in OT, as someone said above, everyone would then be criticizing him for not going for it when their chances of winning in regulation were probably around 85% should they get the first down there.
