Without Montgomery Chicago has to throw, so Fields has to put it up and he hasn't shown he can pass in the NFL at all. Would be nice if the o-line blocked for him too.
Only QB worse so far is Zach Wilson.
Bottom three NFL passers so far are all rookies.
Bears are better off right now with Ginger Bread Man, Fields is clearly not ready.

Losing Montgomery has changed nothing. The backups have been just fine.

Fields is miles from a finished product, but he has the skillset and will grow from playing, not from sitting. The Bears are not a Super Bowl team, so who cares if they win a game or two less with Fields or not. Only question for Chicago is if he will end up better by playing now or sitting. The answer is usually by playing. Most QB's are not "ready" in their first several starts, whether as a rookie or later. Let him play and grow. Whatever his finished product is, the Bears will get to that faster by letting him play. That benefits the Bears. Bottom line.

Really, it's the same for Zach Wilson and Trevor Lawrence also. Let em play. Lance/Garoppolo is a bit of a different situation.
