Possibly buying a piece of land and building something. Just took a tour , not as bad as some say it is. Close to everything as well. It would be a nice place to have when I come back to America once a year.
East St. Louis , any posters living there?

Any reasons as to why you chose Viet Nam over other cheap places to live in East Asia like Thailand, Cambodia or the Philippines? I'm looking to spend a few months there every year.Comment -

Thanks for the input ronald. I like the friendliness of the Filipinas more than the other countries. Thais seem to be so serious, yet polite. I haven't spend any time in Cambodia or Viet Nam so I don't know how they are. Singaporeans are also polite but that's one of the most expensive places in the world to live, plus it's kind of boring and uptight.Comment -

#15I’ve traveled extensively in SEA for years and very familiar with all the countries over there. You will meet many people over there that love one country more than the others. I know people that hate Vietnam and love Thailand vice versa. I’ve been in Vietnam close to 8 years and I’m never leaving. It’s a wonderful country with the most amazing nature one could ever imagine. We have the biggest cave in the world , unbelievable waterfalls etc etc , plus the cities are unbelievable. I do go to Laos , Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China , Myanmar often because everything is so close. I’m on my 3rd passport in 8 years, 56 pages each. I’m always going to all the SEA countries ( before Covid ) Cambodia is a very fun place with an amazing casino etc etc. I definitely consider myself an expert when it comes to expat living there. I’m able to talk with you more about this anytime you want. Shoot me a pm. So many people from all over the world come to that part of the world and don’t want to leave.Originally posted by QuantumLeapAny reasons as to why you chose Viet Nam over other cheap places to live in East Asia like Thailand, Cambodia or the Philippines? I'll definitely be visiting SEA for a few months each year after I retire. I still have friends in a few of the countries.
I'll be sure to visit Viet Nam and Cambodia and Laos when I'm there next. Thanks for the input.

#24I believe Mr. Kroenke owns 2 sections of land in East St. Louis. The 1st section of land is a 'nature reserve' which formally had long-term zero-rent tenants. Most of those tenants had converted their original holdings to permanent dwellings under the previous land owner. Mr. Kroenke had them evicted and they pretty much lost everything they had. Mr. Kroenke was already extremely unpopular and this made things much worse. Mr. Kroenke's 2nd holding was originally intended to become a regeneration shopping mall complex. The local authorities have rescinded all support for the project and Mr. Kroenke has refused to sell the land to anyone else. A long impasse in a depressed area is likely to make the situation worse.Originally posted by Brock LandersDescribe the "stan kroenke" factor as it relates to EAST ST LOUIS
I'm a Rams fan and 1 of the major Rams forums was on the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper website. I'm not in the US so I have no affiliation to St. Louis, or East St. Louis. I may be biased against St. Louis and its inhabitants. However, anyone from outside the area ought to find out whatever the real situation is before they push too far forward with any plans.Comment -
