MLB Bans Fan For Life After Verdugo Incident

The New York Yankees have banned the fan who threw a baseball and hit Red Sox left fielder Alex Verdugo from Yankee Stadium for life, a team spokesman said Sunday afternoon.

Major League Baseball has also banned the fan from its other 29 ballparks, the spokesman added.

“While the Yankees appreciate the spirit and passion of our fans in our various rivalries -- especially with the Red Sox – reckless, disorderly and dangerous behavior that puts the safety of players, field staff or fellow fans in jeopardy will not be tolerated,” the Yankees said in a statement. “There is absolutely no place for it at Yankee Stadium. The safety of everyone at Yankee Stadium, including guests in the stands and players on the field, will always be the top priority for the Yankees organization every time we open our doors.”

The Yankees plan to meet with authorities later Sunday night to provide them with all information they have about the incident, the spokesman said.

A New York City Police Department spokesman told NJ Advance Media that officers didn’t arrest the fan, who was escorted out of the stadium.

The fan hit Verdugo in the back, and it prompted Boston manager Alex Cora to pull his team off the field until tensions eased.

You cant but if for any reason he gets caught on yankee grounds I think he can hit with criminal trespassing. Its unlikely that he would ever get caught but a person who throws a baseball at a player might have just enough low IQ to get himself caught

I’m responding to the fact that if someone throws a baseball at these guys they are expected to do nothing right? So there only recourse is the ballpark security/ownership to do something. Someone posted he should just deal with it because he gets hit with baseballs in game play. I was saying if Verdugo had picked up the ball and fired it back at the guy and hit him would the discussion be “oh that guy should have just dealt with it because he fired the first shot?” You know it wouldn’t. They would be calling for Verdugos head

Well, the home run hit into the stands is thrown back by the home fans….unlikely they are throwing at their own player. I don’t disagree they could just make it no throwing balls back but you also have fielders in outfield playing catch with a kid in the stands in between innings. You would have to stop it all.
