That's part of his greatness. He called those players on the phone. Gronk was retired. AB was living in Brady's house with him and his famiily. Fournette was about to be out of the league. That's what leaders do. People gravitate towards them. People don't mention this quality when assessing talent or skill, but that's a huge reason why you win world championships. True. Think even defensive guys came over cause of Brady. He made several phone calls. Ppl just love playing for/with him. Underrated part of greatness imo is recruitment and motivation, like when Kobe hung his gold medal in Pau Gasol's locker. Brady was basically the GM of the Bucs. He tried to do it with NE but Bellichick wouldn't give up the reigns. That's what Rodgers should be doing. Well you'd have to put up a logical argument why he isn't top 3. In a sport where qbs are judged by rings, he has 7 and the next best has 4. So top 3 is not really a discussion. You can always argue the goat, and everyone gives their opinion, sure. Brady is overrated. His defection to Tampa coincided with the Bucs adding integral pieces up and down that roster, not only on defense as others have stated, but on offense as well, both at the skill positions and solidifying what became perhaps the best offensive line in the league. And make no mistake, without an elite offensive line Brady would look like an average NFL quarterback, and likely worse, considering his age and immobility.
Brady knew what he was doing when he fled to Tampa. New England was falling apart and the Bucs were on the upswing. I guess credit Brady for making a smart business decision, but that's about it. His play in the postseason wasn't even that good, but was buoyed by a team that probably many NFL quarterbacks could have taken on a deep playoff run. The notion that the Bucs were "bad" and Brady magically transformed them into a championship squad is laughable.Comment -
