I know the contract is old news ($330M/14 yrs) but what I didn't realize until watching Real Sports is he's indebted to pay 10% of his future earnings (so far $33M) to BLA for $350K they gave him upfront as a MiL Player. (Big League Advance..basically a predatory payday loan company that disguises itself as a legit company that provides minor leaguers up front money (primarily desperate Hispanics) in exchange for an agreed upon percentage of all MLB earnings. Bottom line is this..Lindor got $341M/10 so that tells you how bad Tatis' contract is. Guy is good enough to get $400M/10 yet he avgs. $23.5M/yr. Not to mention that 350K is long gone & he's contractually obligated to pay 10% of every penny he makes not even counting what he pays in taxes & agent fees. Obviously we'd all like to have his problems but still.
How dumb is Fernando Tatis Jr? (signs a horrible contract & has to give away 10%)

#5If he's telling the truth, and wasn't out clubbing with the money, then it was probably worth it. Don't know if he gets a generational contract without optimizing his healthTatis told The Athletic in 2018 that he signed with Big League Advance initially so that he could afford a “personal trainer, better food, and a better apartment” during his time in the minors.Comment -

#8Tushy you should not make fun of other people's contracts. You reload your gambling accounts every week with thousands of dollars and you lose it all for a living.Comment -

#10That's not the point Jake. Imagine some predatory company fronted you 350K in cash knowing full well based on extensive analytics you were going to be a star & get a huge contract & then get 10% on all future earnings with no cap. Players who are coming to their senses are now suing them over this.Originally posted by JAKEPEAVY21How will he ever survive on 300 million?

#12I think I'd rather pay 10% of all my future earnings to BLM than BLA. ( They're both total scams but at least I could get a charitable tax deduction on the 1st).Comment -

#19Locking up 300 milli when you are 20 years old is never a dumb move. He easily could’ve gotten injured or for whatever reason not have panned out. He will have plenty of endorsements money as well. Smart move imoComment -

#21(Betts 365M/12..Lindor 341M/10..Tatis 340M/14) Which player is grossly underpaid plus has to give up an additional 10% to some predatory MiL Player prospect payday loan company? Their shady CEO blocks me for pointing out an unconvenient truth.Originally posted by TheMetsSuckLocking up 300 milli when you are 20 years old is never a dumb move.
