This will get more common now that sports gambling is legal in many states. The losing gamblers will be harassing players. I wonder when will the first act of violence will occur against a player who cost a gambler a fortune. Things could get interesting as more gamblers bet their savings on sports.

#10I remember reading a story about 10 years ago where the goaltender of the Columbian National Soccer team was murdered by a high ranking cartel drug runner after he inadvertently knocked the ball in his own net.
Accounts of the story say the trigger man said in Spanish just before murdering him "this is for the auto-goal" and then put two bullets in his forehead.Comment -

You know, one of those stories that provokes conversation.
Like it or not that's the way the news business is these days.
Emphasis on fluff.
Back in my daddy's day when he had pretty much Walter Cronkite and nobody else as an option to deliver the news on TV all the stories were straight to the fact, dry and boring, but real news.
Now if Kim Kardashian farts in public it gets front page, below the fold coverage.Comment -

#18Originally posted by JericholicMight you be thinking of the 30 for 30 "The Two Escobars"? Andres Escobar was a defender on the 1994 Columbian Word Cup team who scored an own goal against the US. Crazy story and still my favorite 30 for 30, the players were getting calls in the middle of the night form cartel members threatening them and their families if they didn't win. The whole narco soccer part of the story was super interesting too.
But I read that story years ago I forgot details.
I thought he got murdered. I'm probably wrong but it was indeed a very interesting story.Comment -

#23Just saw that Sharon Osbourne hired security because she was getting death threats online for whatever she said. You know the one constant in all of these situations (other than a handful of crazy people)? TWITTER. Its fu*king toxic man. It feels like this is going to be the new "thing" for a while from the media: searching for celebrity (or pseudo-celebrity) twitter timelines for any death threats and using anecdotal instances of it happening to blow it way out of proportion.
Not to discredit the threats themselves, they should be taken seriously, but seriously how much happier would these people be without their precious twitter?Comment -
