#4Gonzaga won’t want 3 weeks between games IMO.
I would look at pac12 as having possibilitiesComment -

#9The best argument for Gonzaga to ditch is to avoid Las Vegas.
However, a minimum of 20 days between games seems like an awful idea.
If they did play and lose, the pressure would be far less.
Pretty sure I saw that no one ever has went undefeated through a regular season, conference tournament, and ncaa tournament since unc in the 50s.
I would think teams that are in safely as at larges wouldn’t have so much to play for in these.
I would be surprised if we didn’t have any opt outs but I would also be surprised is Gonzaga was one of them.Comment -

#10Auburn and Arizona are out - but it's due to self-imposed post-season bans, not the virus. So Pac-12 would have 11 and the SEC 13 teams in their tournament.
Some small schools like Maine and Jacksonville ended their season early due to COVID, but they were pretty much last place and weren't going far anyway.
A couple of conferences did chop the bottom teams and a round off their tourney - MAC is starting with quarterfinals and Northeast Conf. is only doing semis and final.Comment -

#12if their mind set is that the only thing that can beat us in the big dance is a rash of covid infections caught during the conference tourneys. Then I think they would prefer a 20 day layoff, ( a stretch that many many many teams have had already this year)Originally posted by thetrinityThe best argument for Gonzaga to ditch is to avoid Las Vegas.
I don't think they are worried about dropping their tune up game after the layoff to a friggin 16 seed. They get a full 2-3 nice warm up games before getting tested.
it's a bitch move to duck the conference tourneys. But the NCAA should have gone on the record and said anyone doing it, forfeits ALL post season play.Comment -

#13Indiana did it in '76 and UCLA did it three times in the 60's and 70's.Originally posted by thetrinity

#15Ehh being that the second game will be against someone who is better than anyone they played in months I wouldn’t call it a warmup. Look how terrible Baylor has been since they came back. Most teams have been bad after the long break, only a few handled it well.Originally posted by Chi_archieif their mind set is that the only thing that can beat us in the big dance is a rash of covid infections caught during the conference tourneys. #17Yeah or maybe just a championship game even. The major conferences have them so bubble teams can go on a run and get in, but it makes no sense for a sub 500 team from the wac to have any shot at being there.Originally posted by Otters27Only need semis for most of the small conferencesComment -

#18Yep pac 10 didn’t have them either until like around that time.Originally posted by bonzaiiBig 10 didn't start having conference tournaments till 1998.
Although, in Gonzaga’s case I don’t think it’s a big deal because it would only be 2 games and like a week and half off.
Those Indiana and UCLA teams had a “normal” end to the regular season without b2b2b games and then the ncaa tournament a few days later.
Plus, the pressure on Indiana and UCLA was far less back then it will be on Gonzaga if they go in undefeated.Comment
