It is basically a Ponzi scheme and financial terrorism. They can't really do anything about it so shutting them down. They've done a huge amount of damage though.

I barely know anything about it but I think the strategy probably is to force the hedge fund to buy out of the position and then you make a huge profit when they have to cover the short.

Robinhood is just the vehicle. They make money by sending orders to market makers that charge more. The market makers may be involved in the whole thing on both sides. Robinhood wants out of the game.

robinhood eliminated purchasing on these stocks that have gone drastically up the last couple of days. by limiting purchasing, the prices of these stocks have come down which has made the liability owed by the wealthy a lot less for shorting the stock.

Both sides are the dog that caught the car at this point. The short sellers have sold so much they have to buy out at inflated prices and the Robinhooders can't get out because they hold so much of it. The short sellers have to buy from the Robinhooders. It is a Catch 22.
