Well they traded him cuz he wasn’t going to resign with them. Might as well get something for him. They offered him a ton but he wanted a ton more and he got it with the dodgers.

Ricky Henderson has hit the most HR's from leadoff in MLB history.
Springer has the most leadoff HR's that's currently active.

The next dinger Springer hits from leadoff ties him with Curtis Granderson.

Two things.

The big mistake was Dombrowski signing Chris Sale for a gazillion dollars, so there was no money in the budget to sign Mookie even if he wanted to stay in Boston.

So Boston had to settle for what they could get on a trade, that being Verdugo, Kike Hernandez and a box rocks.
If Sale panned out that would have been a different story, but he's always on the IR list.
Here's a fun fact, Sale has collected over 38 million alone just sitting on the IR.

And they overpaid for JD Martinez as well.

And as a KC Royals fan (even though we still stink to the high heavens) we thank the Sox for Benintendi.
