    Gardner Minshew Could Be Benched
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone acknowledged this week that starting quarterback Gardner Minshew could be benched in the future. Today may be the future.

Minshew is in danger of being benched in favor of backup quarterback Mike Glennon today, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Minshew has shown promise since being drafted in the sixth round last year, but he hasn’t taken the step forward this season the Jaguars were hoping he would.

But Glennon has never shown much either, and it’s hard to see how he would make the Jaguars better. At some point Jacksonville may turn to its third-string quarterback, rookie Jake Luton.

The problem is not the QB. The problem is the GM. Never have good supporting cast.

Offense has a lot of talent but they have nothing on defense.

Mike Glennon will get one more shot at making a positive impression, but he won’t have running back James Robinson to help.

Glennon will remain the Jaguars starting quarterback for their season finale against the Colts on Sunday. It will be Glennon’s fifth start of the season and his second in a row over quarterback Gardner Minshew.

Head coach Doug Marrone conceded Wednesday that no decision on the quarterback was “going to move the needle one way or another,” via Eugene Frenette of the Florida Times-Union.

Glennon is 0-4 as a starter this year, completing 62 percent of his passes for 811 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions. Minshew started Jacksonville’s lone win over the Colts in Week 1 and has 2,259 yards passing with 16 touchdowns and five picks in 2020.

The Jags have to finish this season off right. 15 straight losses to end the season with Glennon at the quarterback.

They put Glennon in to make sure they won't win another game and get #1 pick. This was an owner decision and not a coach decision. You can't win when the worst QB plays.

They are locked into the number one pick. But this assures that they don't cover the spread either.

I was also talking about when Glennon was first made a starter. By not starting Minshew on last meaningless game is basically telling him they will draft Lawrence and he will never start again.

I agree. I actually think that Minshew is salvageable, but not in Jacksonville. Jacksonville planned for Trevor Lawrence better than any team I've seen in a long time. Their one year plan is better than the Houston Astros 5 year tank job and the Sixers "Process". Jacksonville is only a few years removed from playing in the AFC championship game and have ridded themselves of the QB, RB, and most of what talent they had except WR on offense in an offensive league. So it worked out perfectly. They beat a possible playoff team in Indy in the first game and made sure not to ever do that again this year.
