I hate baseball but why are the Padres starting a guy with a 5.69 ERA in an elimination game??

because they lost their best 2 starters, used their other 2 starters in games 1 & 2, and their pen is taxed

Thanks for the clarification...I don’t keep up with it but know that ERA is not good

Yep they have no choice because Clevinger and Limet are off their Wild Card roster and they used a lot of pitchers yesterday. They won't use this guy for very long so it'll be another bullpen day.

Pads completely shutting down this Cardinals offense. I didn't expect this to be a 1-0 game after 7 1/2 innings with the Padres having to rely on their bullpen and Flaherty having his struggles this year but the pitching has shown up in this game on both sides.
