Windows New Version Computer?

I was forced to download the update that took MANY hours to complete. I think it's version 1040, but not sure of the number. I had seen it on the updates for many months and just ignored it. Today, there was no choice given. Kinda scary as what Microsoft may decide, at any time to just shut me down it seems. I don't know. But it said "your version of windows lifecycle is ending". Have other Windows users here been forced to update to this?

This was and still is Windows 10.

I upgraded from Windows to Linux Mint 20 and haven't looked back. Microsoft no longer controls my computer.

Now my email program won't work. I have to do the online email. The Microsoft Chat person told me that Windows Live email ended with Windows 7..How crazy is that I have used it with no problem on Windows 10 until today (about 3 or 4 years..Not sure the exact date) Some other app they want me to download. Since I don't use the Microsoft browser, but like Chrome, I don't guess, I will make that work. I don't want a browser for JUST an email program.

I don't know how it works but I don't like start ups with new PC computers I buy.. Going Mac soon. I don't like to be controlled with Windows 10 ever..

Start up with every new computer it's Microsoft and E browsers for start up whether you like it or not.. TRUTH.. I'm a real estate investor not a computer wiz.. I see what I see.

I worked on Mac recently and it was nice with Safari, I can't lie.. I've been a PC man for life.. Apple technology is solid.. I'm not a fan either but call a spade a spade.. Google chrome I can live with.

I'm a tech dummy, but have to say Google Chrome is my favorite browser for simplicity.. People dislike Google for "privacy issues", but hell they are EASY to use... Even a dummy like me can update and do the settings with no issues. Maybe I'll look into a Google computer.. I like Apple, but Damm the prices are outta sight.

Most of issues are dumb users not knowing what they are doing or old computers

I ditched W10 out of the box and put W8.1, stopped all updates and have never looked back.

But Microsoft tricked me with this update. There was a choice of updating or not. Other security updates were made automatically and I wanted those. This update just sat there and asked me since May 2020. Yesterday they decided, on their end to force it by telling me the lifecycle of my Windows 10 version had ended. It was a 5 to 6 hour download.

Possibly with Windows 8.1 you will never get that message
