I’d say yes if they called for rain. Supposed to be rough going the next two days weather-wise which is why I think they set it up easy for them today. The cold, north wind at Winged Foot which is what is forecast is not a fun one to play in.

      Yeah this is some bullshit.

Patrick Reed even got a hole in one.

When was the last tournament a guy got a hole in one on the first day in 2020?

Got a chance to watch an hour finally and it's clear they set this course up as easy as it could possibly play today. They put a lot of easy pin positions where the ball can funnel to the hole. They also cut the rough compared to what it looked like earlier in the week. I still don't think anyone finishes under par, but it's clear they are trying to protect it from being a bloodbath.

Paul Azinger made a good point. Said they intentionally set it up easy so rounds wouldn't eclipse 5 hours. If they did, they woudn't be able to finish today because sunset is early in New York this time of year. They don't have the daylight in September that they do in June.

Lowest round of tourney - Under 66.5 ---- Thought I'd have to sweat that one out...

the carnage is real. Anyone who doesn't finish under par today should be cut with how easily the greens are holding.

Unfortunately for the players, today's the only day where humidity will be present. Tomorrow the cold north wind comes in and humidity is gone. I still think the winning score will be a couple-over par when all is said and done. In fact, by the end of tomorrow, I think only about 5 or 6 guys will be in the red. But the USGA seems to want to throw these players a bone sometimes and help them out so they don't have to face the complaining, so who knows.

Happy to see Reed playing well. Got a $10 ticket on him.

When the greens dry out then it will become brutal. It was just sad to see the U.S. Open look like that. I quit watching after seeing a 50 year old Phil miss the first two fairways by a half mile and somehow make birdies. I mean for how much talk we heard about the rough being so brutal it was comical to watch guys easily hitting greens from 20 yards into the rough over massive trees from 170 to 180 yards out and every time you hear the announcer say "he caught a break with that lie". I mean so many times players were backing balls up from the rough. That doesn't happen at the U.S. Open. You shouldn't be able to get away with wayward shots. Obviously it will get tougher as they let the course dry out but that was embarrassing. I am sure the USGA heads were probably pissed about what transpired on day one.

Seems like Winged Foot fighting back today. Number of players under par is dwindling this morning. Conditions much tougher.

DJ starting to creep back up. Some big names stacking up in the top-20. Don’t see Pieters staying up there.

Yup, so much for all the smart-ass "Where's the carnage" comments from yesterday. Still a good bet that the winning score will end up being close to Even or over par. The greens haven't even come close to getting fast yet, either.
