$900 for a 2 bedroom apartment in Santa Monica, Ca almost 30 years ago coming out of college, I did stay in that apartment for 5 or 7 years as I can't remember, I even had roommates in that second bedroom for a few years to help pay rent as I was saving up.. I got stories with that adventure.. Geeezzz. No regrets though. Great life experiences..

Now mortgages I paid more after that..

JJ a few years back started a thread to share a house in Vegas, rent per person I believe was even cheaper then that $425.. Like $350 a pop if I remember correctly.. A house with 4 roommates off the strip.. Disaster waiting to happen.. I knew that then.. House full of gambling degens what could possibly go wrong?

JJ does get creative though, I don't think that Vegas dream ever panned out though, not sure????

College I did have 4 of us living in a large one bedroom off Campus in Isli Vista, Santa Barbara.. It was a large 1 bedroom with a living room, 2 slept in the living room and my best bud shared the bedroom. It was wild. Did that for couple years. $200 bucks a head is what we paid each. Had a common area pool though..

When I was a Jr. in HS living with my parents at age 16.

Right now I have a real good deal, my mortgage is 880 a month which is a good 20 plus percent better than most rentals.

Mid-90's college 4 of us split a 4br, which I believe was like $750/mo. Late 90's I had a 1br at $400/mo.

When just me, the lowest rent I had was a 1br apartment for $315 a month. Electric was about $35-40 a month. I didn't have a phone because phone company wanted a deposit of $200. No cable either, same thing needed a huge deposit, so just rabbit ears, but I mainly just played Nintendo or Sega.

I did rent an old beat up farm house with a buddy for a short while. My split was $200.

Did same with another old buddy, rented a crappy trailer. My half of bills was about $250

Shared an apartment with 2 old buddies. Was only a 2br, i slept on couch for about $175-200 a month. I was 3rd shift and they had 1st shift jobs, so wasn't too bad trying to sleep.

Cheapest probably at parents in sisters old bedroom. $50 a week, come and go as i please, and buy my own groceries.
