Obviously Covid

Protests against police shootings existed before, but the pandemic has pushed a lot of people who were close to edge, over it. Protests that turn into riots. White folks losing their sh*t in stores at others simply for wearing masks. All major sports and other forms of entertainment shelved and only now semi-reopened. Industries that will take years to recover (if they ever do).

Pre-pandemic, there were already signs of a possible recession. That mini oil war with Russia/Saudi in Feb/March alone would have been enough to scare the markets. The % of people behind on vehicle, student loans and credit card debts at record (bubble) numbers. Exploding homelessness.

Covid has preoccupied the US to the point where China has just waltzed in and reneged on previous agreements regarding Hong Kong (how long until they make a serious move on Taiwan?)

News like Boeing axing 19,000 would rock that industry and markets in general. Granted, that company was teetering anyway with having the 737 crashes, groundings, and leaked correspondence those exposed a dysfunctional company. But still, that would have been huge.

While a lot of this was inevitable, having it all happen with the fast forward button pressed due to Covid made things a lot worse, a lost faster.

Race riots didn't shut down Vegas but Covid did.
18,000 laid off at MGM because of low business after re-opening, never happened because of civil unrest. Covid did it.
