    NBA
Let me start by saying this is not a partisan political statement but what do the NBA/NBAPA have to iron out to resume? What do the players think the owners can do about all these social issues? I don’t really think NBA owners have that kind of influence over politics, police, laws, social justice, social unrest, cops shooting people, criminals/suspects not following requests, etc... again, what do the players think the owners can actually do? The owners get paid 100’s of millions by TV dollars, fans, concessions, etc... and so do the players. What else do they want from the owners? You are really just damaging the brand/business with all the uncertainty. What’s the actual plan? It just doesn’t seem like the owners have that kind of flex.

The goal is to make owners spend more money in some fashion to help the cause. Anything but getting a job and working hard to improve your life. That is it in a nutshell.

Thank you General for the response. I see the spending of more money but still confused on the ask.

The players will tell you that these owners have political influence and can make politicians do things. Fair enough, but Mr Trump has done a lot for African Americans in the 1st term and they hate him so no loyalty to back up your stance. Therefore, enjoy the next four...

Dude, I don’t think the owners have political influence or clout like that. It’s such a reach. I’d challenge everyone to go back to their own communities and make it better themselves before asking others to do so.

Who is bending to a NBA owner? Hell, Trump called out Sheldon Adelson who could buy most the teams with one check.

You can sit here and say owners are rich and connected, Devos, blah blah blah... but the issues in our society run much deeper. Not a single owner can tap Trump, Obama, Biden, Bush, Pelosi, whomever on the shoulder and say fix this, and it’s done. You might elevate an issue for a time but just like school shootings and everything else, this becomes backpage when the new above the fold crisis hits. They all better have a well organized ask with shared responsibility/accountability or it won’t work.

They need the owners to pay democrat mayor's of ghetto cities to leave. Put responsible people in charge. Make sure people go to school and don't do drugs and make 11 year old girls pregnant. Then when school is done get a job. Work hard. Build your money and buy a home. Get married and have kids. Rinse and repeat.

Basically what most people do. The key point here is that no hand outs

The owners know this. Behind closed doors and in their minds, these owners aren't very happy with the chaos hurting the bottom line. It's all very sad in reality, but it's just the way it is and even if change is possible it's gonna take lots of hard work and a very long time.

After reading this morning that over half the team owners didn’t even want the blm words on the courts, it’s obvious the owners are not going to be willing to do much and imo they shouldn’t do anything

Please share what exactly has been done. I’ve heard Trump say this but no substance is provided to back up the claim. I don’t follow politics but this seems to be repeated often but never with any explanation.

As far as owners there is at least an acknowledgement by players that money buys influence. Politics completely influenced by money and lobbyists.

I do like the fact that Trump did so much for the African American people in his first term because he wanted to and thought it was the right thing to and not out of political expediency or feeling forced to. The next guy would do a lot, but it would be cause he/she has no choice and it's now hip. He did it with very little to gain politically. He was never going to win over the Black vote...

Let's say they put in some extremely tough measures. I'd guess that it would piss off a lot of these rogue, jerkier cops. They'd walk around pissed off and be more likely to shoot anyway. It would all be a wash at best...

They have no leverage. NBA doesn't want to start next season until fans are allowed into arenas as it would hurt the lesser teams too much. So if the players don't want to play now just tear up the CBA and starve the players for a year and the next deal will be much more favourable for the owners. The players know this, that's why they're back to work. No harm for them in making empty threats though.

Just 20% of NBA players are registered to vote. Colin Kaepernick has never voted. Yet the sports media have allowed them to lecture the rest of us on politics for the past four years.
