Seems like a longshot but hopefully they can shake down a few scraps from the bigwigs.

They should leave the conference. Go independent for 2020

They should be suing Nebraska for making them play for free.

Nebraska considered leaving... At least two big downsides to leaving.

They lose their portion of a conference payout. Its $50,000,000 due to Nebraska.
They will no longer be a part of the Big 10 in the future. Their option would be to rejoin the Big 12 but the Big 10 annual payouts are higher.

But, they might win more games in the Big 12 and offset the monetary losses somehow.

They also have to pay the Big 10 millions to leave early. They never considered leaving. They thought maybe they could play a separate schedule but no such luck.

                It's a waste of time.
That's like suing the government for making you wear seat belts.
You never win a "safety case"

When you play for free, you have no case. You can play intramurals. The Big 10 is not stopping you from playing for free.

I missed the part where anyone ever made they play.

Yes, they are not making them play now either.

They've never been made to play. It's always been optional.
