Vlade Divac Steps Down As Kings GM
Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac is stepping down from his role.

As first reported by Sam Amick of The Athletic, Divac is leaving his position as the team’s GM after five years in the role. Joe Dumars will take over on an interim basis and run the search for Divac’s replacement.

Amick also reports that coach Luke Walton, hired by Divac and the Kings last offseason, is not in danger of losing his job after the GM’s departure.

While it’s unclear why Divac is departing now, he hasn’t been able to deliver results since taking over the role. In five seasons with Divac as GM, the Kings haven’t had a winning season or made a playoff appearance, and many of his moves have been criticized. He also never really nailed any of his high draft picks, infamously passing on Luka Doncic in favor of Marvin Bagley second overall in 2018.

Divac signed a contract extension with the Kings at the end of the 2018-19 season, so something has changed significantly in a year. It’s especially notable given his battles with ownership, which he seemed to have won.

Sacramento should look hard at Raptors GM Bobby Webster. Masai Ujiri calls the shots in Toronto, but Webster has been an integral member of a front office that is among the league's best at identifying talent.

                to paraphrase

sacramento shouldn't look for a white gm... asian is somewhat acceptable... black would be better though... anything but white!

The Kings playoff drought is the 2nd worst thing to happen over the last decade and a half. The worst is Vlade getting the GM position. Loved him as a player with the Kings, but he can kick rocks.

Stauskas yes but they traded him before he was a bust so did not hurt too much.

Passing on Doncic was shocking even at the time. He would have known him from the time Luka was a little boy, so it's not like he didn't have a scouting report or character assessment. He didn't so much pick Bagley over him as he did Fox... felt Doncic wouldn't be effective off the ball so that was the reasoning

Nail in the coffin for him was firing Joeger. Good coach, way ahead of Walton. Think he got offended when Joeger alluded to the obvious that Doncic was better than Bagley -I forget what his words were.

Everyone in and around the NBA thinks they can coach. I'll just mimic what my former coach did and hey presto!

Good ones are few & far between.

I loved the Kings direction heading into this season but they completely shit the bed at every opportunity. if they found some success & made the playoffs then maybe we would have been able to skip past the 2018 draft but now its effect is even more magnified. a European front office passing on what will be one of the greatest European players we've ever seen will probably go down as one of the worst draft fumbles of all time.
