Trying to build him up to eventually ensure fan interest and keep it. Unlike Trout he has charisma and appeal to the fans. Above average player but no superstar which is what they want to convey. They need him to get solid stats which you cannot get batting lead off. It's a marketing ploy that is working for them so far. just keep telling the fans how good he is and they will believe it.
