He’s already declared for the 2020 draft. I think he stays in and this is just a publicity stunt.

Howard was 4-29 last year. They are the worst D1 team in basketball. Many D2 teams would beat them.

Howard isn’t even a good HBCU. This isn’t like a 5 star football player deciding to play at Southern or Grambling. It’s such a mindless decision I can’t imagine he follows thru with it.

Upon graduating, Blakeney landed his first assistant coaching position under Lefty Driesell at James Madison, where he stayed for one season before another one-year stop at La Salle. Blakeney would join his former Duke assistant coach Mike Brey's staff at Delaware, where he'd stay from 1997 to 2001. During the 2001–2002, Blakeney served as an assistant coach at Seton Hall before returning to Delaware for a second assistant coaching stint. In 2006, Blakeney became an assistant coach at Marshall before joining another former assistant coach from his playing days, this time working with Tommy Amaker at Harvard.

In 2011, Blakeney left coaching for the private sector, working at Under Armour in the company's marketing division. He'd return to coaching in 2018 joining the coaching staff at Columbia. On May 6, 2019, Blakeney was named the 10th head coach in Howard men's basketball history going 2-20 in his first season.

It's a free country. If he wants to go to Howard then good for him... FWIW, I was on the Howard campus 3 years ago. I was the only white person around and everyone I met acted with class and treated me great.

I think the real question is why do 5 star recruits go to college at all? They could play in Europe or China for a year and become millionaires. If the disaster scenario occurred and they suffered a career ending injury they could easily pay for college and have hundreds of thousands of dollars left over.
