The top black athletes choose football and basketball. Cheap sports where all you pretty much need is a ball. They are also the likeliest to get them into college/pros. Hockey costs thousands of dollars. Equipment is not cheap. Ice time definitely isn’t cheap. And there’s usually a ton of travel expenses that come with it driving all over playing in tournaments etc, it really isn’t a realistic option for 90% of black people. This should be the last problem addressed though

It is astounding to me that anyone would claim that any professional sports league has any kind of racial injustice. If you're good enough, you can play. Leagues and teams go out of their way to find ways for people to get through any hoops needed so that they can get on the field, court, ice, pitch, pool, board, or track. So if you're wondering why their aren't any black dudes on the diving team, or motor cross team, or hockey team, or chess team, or debate team, or any other team for that matter, maybe it is because they just aren't enough people who have what it takes to make the team.

Youth hockey costs a fortune. Between registration fees, equipment, travel, etc., I spent about 100k for my kid. Not to mention the time I spend on the road.

Hockey is expensive as fukk when you a kid. Even the high school I went to which was pretty big you had to pay quite a bit annually to play hockey, not to mention all the equipment and shit that wasn’t provided and certainly wasn’t in my families price range! Only the rich twerps at my school played hockey. I don’t think they even carried the school name like rest of our sports teams? Never saw a high school hockey game, lol.

In other words in not just blacks without a opportunity to play in a lot of areas. Rink time pricey and scarce (I recall one my cousins played and he would have very odd hours he had to be at practice since there simply not a lot of rinks in the area), equipment pricey, wasn’t a whole lot of interest or focus on it. Unless you grow up somewhere with frozen ponds all winter it just not likely you had the chance to try your hand at that sport!!

Bingo. As I was saying, cost and simple fact there not a whole lot of rinks in the area make it a tough sport for many families to have their kids participate. That is in St. Louis who a pretty hockey crazed city when it comes to the blues and nhl!!
