It's another fake holiday. Much like valentines day, mothers day, fathers day etc.
And no I hadn't heard of it until a few days ago.

Some lady on t.v said it's as big a holiday as 4th of July and we are all supposed to celebrate it. This is getting ridiculous now.

Juneteenth Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the liberation of those who had been held as slaves in the United States. Originating in Texas, it is now celebrated annually on the 19th of June throughout the United States, with varying official recognition.

Anyone who studied American history knew of it. It's not as big a deal as they make it out to be though.
The surrender of Lee to Grant and subsequent surrender of Johnston to Sherman was the end of the civil war, this was just a date they "heard" about that in Galveston.

Lol. I thought I was the only one. Also besides being 70 years old or more maybe, have you seen a white supremacist before. I mean actually in person. The way the media portrays America, kkk kicking it at every street corner. I have never seen a kkk member or white supremacist ever in my life.

Reading about, I have to ask why would any African-Americans want to be reminded on a national scale of all the slavery that went on? How would celebrating this holiday allow people to heal and bring people together? I don't think it will, and it would only keep the racial tensions up for the next 50 years. Do any other countries have holidays surrounding the ending of slavery?

yeah, every July 4th I just get so depressed thinking about and being reminded of how we were under the thumb of England and had taxation without representation.
let's just move on from that ugliness

They are trying to make Trump guilty of having a campaign rally on june 19?
Where was the outrage when Clinton had a campaign fundraiser party back in 2015 on June 19?

Do you know that Lincoln thought the freed slaves should be sent back to Africa or even Central/South America? He didn’t think we’d be able to live in peace after what all had happened.
