For a lot of people, especially older people, that is an innocent and too obvious retort back. They are not aware of all the codes... Also, until you hear it enough and get used to what it means: "Black Lives Matter" sounds like the dumbest sh*t ever. I am pretty sure I heard Chappelle saying something to that effect years ago as well.
