This hits home especially hard for me as I was here in the Miami area for those glory years and remember them fondly. I will miss you.

That line was tough back in the '70s. I read one crazy story by one of the O' lineman. I think it was Jim Langer. He had his knee redone with screws. Anyway, he had to come out of a game. He wanted to get to back in there, but the docs said the only way would be if they pounded the screws back in. They used a piece of 2X4 and hammer and pounded them back in.

I don't think today's players would do that, nor would I recommend it. Plus, they probably had him shot up with painkillers.

Don Shula had only two losing seasons in his 33 years as a head coach. Throughout he was the same relentless taskmaster: an innovator who found ways to win with stars and unsung stalwarts, like the so-called No-Name Defense of the early 1970s.

No only is Cal's most unbreakable but I don't see anyone ever getting to 324 games based on modern analytics with managers knowing the importance of resting players.O's management beyond retarded to let him play another 500+ straight games after he broke the record no matter how popular he was.

especially since he wasn't that good a player. slightly above average hitter, no range in the field, bad base runner and weak arm.

Agreed if he was a corner outfielder or 1B without the streak & never got 3000 hits no chance at HOF.

I thought I would post this for fellow Dolphin fans. I remember watching this game as a kid. I still can't believe they couldn't make it past the Patriots in the AFC Championship game for a rematch with the Bears in the Super Bowl. They would of at made least made it a close game, compared to 46-10.

I don't think anybody will ever have a quicker release, or throw a harder ball. Marino's receivers kept saying he was breaking their fingers in practice.

Back to Shula, one time the Dolphins had to use the Raiders' locker room for some reason and somebody left the Raiders' game plan in his locker. An assistant gave it Shula, and he said "throw it in the garbage." They lost the game, but there was no way Shula was going to cheat.
