A mind-boggling 30 million people have filed for unemployment in 6 weeks. There are likely more without jobs.

    • In just six weeks, 30 million Americans have filed for unemployment insurance as coronavirus layoffs continue.
    • That may be an undercount of how many Americans are actually out of work due to the coronavirus pandemic.
    • Studies have shown that people have struggled to file claims or haven't even tried because of the difficulty of applications.
    • Slow rollouts of expanded Pandemic Unemployment Assistance may have delayed claims from millions of workers who are now eligible for benefits.

A socialist's dream, which is why a lot of governors want to continue the lockdown.

This socialism is exactly why we elected all these politicians. It's why you are going to vote for them again in November.

                        This is the millenials...

They don't get conforming jobs. It's all gigs and part time stuff.

That the feds applied the UI to gig workers is why every bartender, massage therapists, healer, organic juicer and uber driver is filing and why states are denying like 60% of the claims.

It's crazy how millenials have changed the way we look at work.

Exactly. We're getting the socialism we wanted when we elected him and that's why we are going to vote for him again.

I find it funny that guys paying over 25 thousand a year in taxes are now feeling guilty taking the extra six hundred they will be adding to the piss they give out now. Do you fukss realize this is your money? Your taxe money? Stop letting rich assholes or shitty politician pit us against each other. 43 millionaires got a 1.6 million dollar check and not one of you mention it and are more worried about a guy getting an extra six hundred for fuks sake.

The only ones who should be upset about the extra $600 are the people working still and having people make more on unemployment than they do working 80 hours for their paycheck. The extra benefit should’ve been distributed in a way that you got it if laid off and if you were deemed “essential” and still working. It’s an election year I’m sure something will be done to rectify it in some way.

This! A lot of people making more being locked down than actually working - Nice gig! Just like Colin Jost, who's locked down with ScarJo, "hopes we never find a cure" - That was a Pete Davidson SNL joke. But so true!

Care and do are totally two different things. Identity theft is so low on crimes that police pursue. It has to be pretty huge to get to a point they actually put it as a priority.

One problem with this theory. Many large companies including state government, city government, county government, etc. want their employees on unemployment right now and probably the distant future. They have to pay a ton less to cover the unemployment than they do if they were “employed” and they had to cover their entire paycheck. Even if companies open back up they aren’t going to be making the money they were before this immediately so they won’t want everyone back right away. That’s why you’re hearing about government agencies and companies sending mass emails to offer voluntary unemployment to people. Many people are/will take this option as they will make more money than they do and still technically be employed by the company. Tricky thing is and is yet to be seen is if the government agencies and companies actually end up taking the people back after their voluntary unemployment is up. I’d recommend not being one of the people to volunteer to do this, once they see they can operate without you they might not bring you back.
