April 1st racing card was called off prior to first post time by the health board this afternoon. Cal expo was the lone harness meeting standing. No word yet if this a one day thing. Or more. Stay tuned.

#5The closing of Cal-Expo isn't sad at all. it's a shitty track with corrupt cheating horsemen, cheap horses, uncompetitive racing, small fields, and no handle.Originally posted by IonaSad.
Also they milk the post time clock to the point that 0 minutes to post actually means its still at least 5 minutes until they are called to the post.
The only other tracks that compare in terms of shittyness are Monticello Raceway and Freehold.
I'm glad that shithole Cal-Ex has been shitcanned.Comment -

#13Thank you! Cal expo some of the worst and shadiest cheats out there! Growing up around the Illinois harness racing scene and meeting many trainers/owners/insiders...almost all agreed cal expo was the worst! And that's saying a lot because Hoosier park which was a stones throw away from most of those guys was really fkng shady.Originally posted by iconThe closing of Cal-Expo isn't sad at all. it's a shitty track with corrupt cheating horsemen, cheap horses, uncompetitive racing, small fields, and no handle.

Oosting was a meet leader at Balmoral and maywood constantly, but he was also a drunk. One night he got a DUI from a state trooper who I hung out with at the local otb...dude let oosting go with a warning...needless to say 3 days later we both had a 16-1 shot at Hoosier(or maybe Indiana downs, icr) ridden by Jason dillander for a really nice score who drew off by like 10 lengths lol...
Back to Cal tho, the plano brothers, stevey wiseman, Geno vallandingham, Ed Hensley, Jimmy lackey...those guys were shady asfComment -

#14Missed where anyone said they were worried and why would anyone worry it only causes undue stress which could add to health issues if you did get sick. And being worried does absolutely no good take the precautions that you should and weather the storm.

#16I feel like Cal-expo has a lot of potential, but they do basically no advertising for it. Only time I see any adds for that venue is for the Gun show and the Wedding Gown show....

In the casino, still want free drinks. Must bet horses to keep the drinks coming.

#22Remember this scandal years back? Cal Expo has always been so scummy that it wasn't even surprising. Still, betting Cal Expo alongside Los Al at night is a timeless tradition.
Agents from the state attorney general's office arrested drivers
Todd Ratchford and Jason Maier between races at Cal Expo on
Thursday night.
Jason Maier, 24, won the race. Authorities say his brother,
Daniel, bribed Burt and Ratchford to hold back their horses. Burt
finished fourth and Ratchford last.Comment -

Had no idea their was this much drama at this track.
This is the most I think I will ever hear, ever about thius track.
Seriously, when I'm betting horses at the Stations, I think I'm the only one, that is betting this track when it's running.
The other customers in the casinos are just waiting for their late sports games in progress.
I've never heard anybody talk about that track, till tonight.
This is making me laugh.Comment -

Lost track of him over the years and saw he ended up at Cal -Ex, what a waste.
Hensley is now full time on the Ontario circuit, Woodbine - Mohawk Park, Flamboro, Georgian Downs, Grand River Raceway etc.
I think he is still a remendous driver and I am a fan.Comment -

#25Racing quality appears legit from my perspective. I like the 7/8th mile tracks best. Hoosier has some big races and big purses. Big purses = better calibre horses.Originally posted by darrell74Hoosier?

Meadowlands was the top harness track for decades but has tailed off and Woodbine Mohawk Park racing is just as good if not better most nights, IMO.
I prefer thoroughbreds but I also like the smaller Ontario tracks for harness.Comment -

But like I said, the whole sport is fixed. On the Illinois scene Joe Anderson was one of the worst. Whenever his son Ryan was riding I used to call it 'joe juice'. Paul Blumenfeld too (he made is way out to Yonkers). Eric Ledford and his father were banned indefinitely after moving out to the big M. Sooooo many more.Comment -
