Chloroquine, an old malaria drug, may help treat novel coronavirus, doctors say
(NEW YORK) — What do malaria and COVID-19 have in common? On the surface, not much. But according to early research, an old malaria drug called chloroquine might also work for the new coronavirus.

Chloroquine, or hydroxychloroquine, has been used to treat malaria since 1944. It can be given before exposure to malaria to prevent infection, and it can also be given as treatment afterward.

Malaria is a disease that is caused by a parasite, unlike COVID-19. Nevertheless, laboratory studies show chloroquine is effective at preventing as well as treating the virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, a close cousin of COVID-19.

Given chloroquine’s effectiveness in treating SARS, scientists have investigated if it will be an effective treatment against the new coronavirus responsible for COVID-19. So far, the initial trials are encouraging.

“There is evidence that chloroquine is effective when they looked at SARS in vitro with primate cells,” said Dr. Len Horovitz, a pulmonologist and internist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. “The theory of the experiment with primate cells was that chloroquine could be for preventing viral infection or as a treatment for viral infection after it had occurred. In vitro in these primate cells, there was evidence that viral particles were significantly reduced when chloroquine was used.”

I think there is at least 3 drugs now showing promise.
    - Malaria drug Pauly mentions.
    - Prep (HIV drug)
    - Japanese flu drug.

I only have the link for the Japanese article.

Best part is these drugs don't need as much testing as a new treatment or vaccine since they've already been used on humans in the pasts.

I wonder if this is how China stopped their number of cases so quickly. 4000 deaths out of 1.4 billion to create plausible deniability. They'd do it without hesitation. What better way to make the enemy believe you did not train the lion than to let him bite you first.

Have they tried the heavy water from the Fukushima nuclear plant? That would kill the virus.

Hydrochloroquine with zinc looks promising...waiting on randomized controlled studies, which is hard but possible in this environment. State of China disease dept already released guidance to treat all covid19 with confirmed Pneumonia with hydroxychloroquine.

First randomized study was released in New England journal yesterday showing no benefit to lop/rit, which is an hiv drug.

remdesivir, also an hiv medication was used on the index case in US with some success but also requires further investigation.

yes, there are no so called cures for virus, but medication can potentially shorten course of illness or prevent progression to Pneumonia and/or Acute respiratory distress syndrome, which is what kills people with infection.

                  hang in there guys.

I can answer any questions you may have here as well...

I have read two separate papers detailing how this virus could have only arose from Natural a Selection. Human engineered virus have very specific markers within the genome of the viral RNA. I’m sorry, but the theory this virus came from a Chinese bio weapon facility is highly improbable.

Hudroxychloroquine is taken by mouth once a day. I am not aware of rectal suppository route.
