#12That stat amazed me. In the olden days they would hold up the game while they stitched up the starting goalie.Originally posted by MickeyManNot even close. He’s only the second emergency backup who has even made a save in a game.

#13This is a cool story, but it's a bizarre thing that the NHL has. Apparently most NHL teams carry two goalies on their roster, and every game the home team must supply an emergency goalie who is available to both teams and is simply 'on-call' in the stadium. I find it awesome and idotic at the same time.Comment -

its a great story
but it shouldnt happen
i mean 3 qbs go down, then you run wildcat
your back up center goes down, then you play small ball in basketball
theres no reason a normal player cant suit up and play goalieComment -

#21Yeah, that's a real good question Distroya. Any NHL aficionados out there know what the protocol is if both teams lose both their goalies?Originally posted by DISTROYAWhat a bizarre rule, both teams. What if both lose their backup goalies?

#25It’s only happened twice in the history of the league that an emergency backup has made a save. So they take their chances. #26Any goalie who is close to nhl level is playing in another league and making at least a bit of money at it. That’s why the emergency backup is a random dude.Comment -

I thought it should have been much higher, it would have been set at 9.5 regardless of whether another backup goalie entered the game or an emergency goalie.Originally posted by stevek173There was another thread about the live line on this, it was 9.5 when he went in.
I was shocked that it wasn't higher, it would have been nine and a half if a Third String Goalie entered the game rather than an emergency goalie

I suspect most of the Toronto fans knew who he was as he is the Zamboni driver for the MarliesOriginally posted by pologqVery cool story. Liked how the home fans cheered him at the end.
I know guys who would pay $500,000 to step between the pipes and celebrate with an NHL team after the game. David Ayres has it all figured out.
