you can always authorize someone to release information, to quell fears of family, friends, and, in the case of celebrities and popular pro sports figures, concerned fans.....

i think there were some serious concerns they wanted to get ahold of before rushing out info, and newman may not have even known the end diagnosis, and thus not sure what to release other than what they did the first night, two hours in....

if he was fine, it would be an uncool move, but I doubt that was it....

if we never get a statement from him, or interview, or see him in a race car again, we can assume it was permanent brain damage from that grill he took to dome from a car doin' 195 mph down the front stretch in daytona as he was upside down in his car.....
