I always wondered when a entire professional sports team plane crash would happen.. Dodged a bullet so far in America. They fly alot!!!

Back in the day the Lakers used to have a charity night at Barker Hangar. It was pretty expensive to go to, but he used to rep Paris Hilton so he had carte blanche to any cool event.

So he calls me up because we are both die hard Lakers fans and takes me to the event. They have a poker tourney sponsored by Bodog and lo and behold who gets seated to my left but Kobe and Vanessa. She was actually very pregnant with their second child who happened to be the daughter that died.

So we are playing a few hands and Vanessa shoves all in like 3 hands in. I picked up AA and call obv. Bust her she has some rags and then Kobe slides her over some chips. I wanted to call him out but nobody is gonna say shit including the dealer so whatever. I make a comment like boy I am gonna have a story to tell my wife that I busted your wife out of this tourney and he's kind of annoyed.

Couple hands later I pick up A9 suited spades and am heads up with Kobe. Board comes with an A and I think a few spades. We end up playing the hand and showing down - I don't hit my flush and he has me outkicked with like AK or AQ and beats me for a pretty big pot. He's like you go tell your wife Kobe beat you in poker lol. Dude was a peach.

Cool story.. I'm a little older and have my stories with the showtime Lakers myself.

Yep I've met almost all the showtime Lakers back in the day myself.. Long story.. Sky bar was a regular hang out off Sunset BLVD back then or I'd run with some of them at the UCLA athletic center for workouts. I was a beach volleyball player at the time and had gotten a UCLA student ID card and could get in to run and play hoop, I held my own. I'm 6'6" and was very athletic for a white boy back then, I could jump. Today I don't even think I could dunk a basketball at 51 years old, I need to try that..

Oh and for the record - James Worthy was a pig at the night clubs and I clearly remember that.. He'd hit on every white girl around when I saw him there.. "Hi I'm James". NO LIE..

No. Mr. Nina worked in law enforcement while putting himself through college after he got out of the Marines. He worked in the Talladega area and was assigned at the race. They became buddies.

Being a good 12 years younger than Mr. Nina, I was a mere baby at the time!!!
