It was ok. There were some parts I was like damn, been there!! Lol. The ending was totally unexpected and way more real life than most the happy endings Hollywood always shoving down our throats!! Overall I didn’t think it was bad, certainly wasn’t great but worth watching I thought.

Nobody promoting him really, for quite some time now all those goofy comedies with him and some without him all produced under the happy/Madison company which I assume Sandler runs.
I’m certainly not trying to defend his acting chops, he not a very good actor, most his roles not acting just him being goofy like I assume he is in real life! He has a handful of movies I liked a lot and think most would admit to enjoying at least 2-3 of his movies if you convinced them it be a secret ballet! I think lot of ppl will deny enjoying certain movies just to uphold their snobby rep as a movie critic! lol. I mean yea they were pretty stupid but no more so than most comedies.
What wrong with the things you say he has to use to get laughs? I’d rank Sandler way low on list of comedians who use profanity, vulgarity, and sexual content to get laughs. Seems like that bothers you? Fact is I can’t recall a great comedian who wasn’t at least somewhat vulgar! Not sure why that matters? “Dirty bs” has never been some secret key to getting laughs, still has to be delivered properly and be funny! I’ve never thought Sandler was a great comedian by any stretch, I don’t even recall seeing him do a hour stand up like all the good comedians do!! Gotta give it to him tho, for not being a top 10 comedian and never being accused of having great acting chops, the guy has done quite freakin well for himself!

Ppl have this thing we call recency bias! Last thing they saw always the greatest! Lol.
It’s worth watching Imo, Sandler does a great job playing a degen. I thought he nailed it. 1-10 I’d call it a 6, worth watching if you struggling to find anything but just don’t have your expectations too high!!

Absolutely
All except for his original CD/Album lol
But as I said, his goofy style of comedy set the path for oddball humor in the future like those old spice commercials which made no sense, but ppl found funny.
Sandler was doing that years before.

You don’t feel like you got to witness a downfall? Feel like we watched a different movie if you felt that way, dudes who life was a downfall until he finally won then yoi know what happened!! That what made the movie imo, the way it went after actually hitting the bet was tragically perfect for some our lives!! Lol

Just the way he was able to leverage marginal talent into that career is pretty damn impressive imo! I was big fan some his early ones. Waterboy was great imo. Happy gilmore was good, billy Madison not bad. I’m sure I’m leaving a few off. Of course he has at least 6-7 god awful pieces of dog shit as well!!
I’d take Sandler over Jim Carrey far as comedy any day. Carrey comedies all ring as stupid more than funny for me. I think Carrey has more acting range, actually liked few his dramatic type rolls much better than his comedies. I do love the grinch tho! Lol

I'm sure it's decent..I just remember a few threads with posters waxing poetic about it..the early hype has died down to say the least..

Yep. I actually rewatched it last night while I wasn’t able to sleep. I don’t understand why so many bashing it? It might not be Oscar worthy or a all timer but I thought it was entertaining,

Saw that it was on Netflix this weekend and checked it out. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be (due to the reviews here).
I did see a review online that said it should have been titled Unnecessary Stress instead of Uncut Gems. Couldn’t have agreed more with that thought. Couldn’t imagine putting myself in those positions.

His case was obviously a bit extreme but you really can’t relate at all to getting in a hole and trying to dig out on tilt? All the while just making shit worse and worse!! Didn’t feel like all that much a stretch for me, lol.
The only part that lost me and was clearly bothersome to us real life degens was a 2 part problem. Using who wins the opening tip of the big parlay was wrong on so many levels. 1st off I’ve never seen any “who wins the tip” prop bets (I’m sure they around just never looked), I’m am sure if a shop has it there no way they letting you parlay that with game outcome! Secondly who the hell makes a bet their life literally depends on and not only makes it a parlay but starts it with who wins the freaking tip!!?!??? Can you imagine risking everything on that play? Tip bounces funny and you homeless! Lol

i went and saw it in theater when it was hyped up like the best movie ever 90 something rotten tomatoes and meta critic they were saying sandler would win an oscar, i thought the movie was very loud and very amateur acting, he used alot of people that haven't been in many movies, then there was the un realistic parlying a tip off win with props in the same game, cmon movie was alright and that was thanks to the sexy julia fox

That what I was saying was the biggest problem. Dunno who the hell wrote it but they missed badly with the opening tip being part of the big parlay. Lol. I just choose to ignore that and not let it ruin movie for me.

Bank, I am glad you brought that up. I really had to totally ignore the ridiculous " all-in, win or die, parlay" to enjoy the movie. If I took more than a second to move on, then I might not have enjoyed the movie at all. Whoever was the gamblin` consultant on this film should be ashamed of himself. The bet could have been a legit parlay and we still could have had the drama.
On another note, I have some real experience in buying/selling at auctions. Again, too much unnecessary added drama. Very unrealistic.
I was totally shocked by the ending, which usually never happens. Probably give it a re-watch this summer.

Oh...I’ve been in the situation of chase mode where it comes down and you lose your whole bankroll and some. Yes...I once had to do the great walk of shame in taking a loan out of my 401k. Luckily those days are way behind me. I learned a long time ago, I’m not going to get rich gambling.
The part the I found too crazy was all the pawning of rings...giving guy’s watches and having mob guys following you around town. Guess that’s the great thing of Internet wagering. No crazy stories like this...just a case or two of running your credit card up too high.
I was already aware before of the unreal bets so that didn’t ruin it for me....luckily I wasn’t aware of how it ended because that was the unique thing about the movie.

Not bad not great
Something to watch at the end of the day
First 20 minutes were bad
Not the best character development
Whatever, kinda forgettable but what movie on Netflix isn't?
