The dunk contest can and often has been ruined by the judges in the past when it comes awarding the winner. The 3 point contest is far more results and objective driven in determining the winner.
Previous contestants and winners such as Steve Kerr, JJ Reddick and Dirk nowitzki have gone into detail talking about the 3 point contest. One of the take aways is that it is not necessarily the same as shooting 3s in a real game in that it is timed and the motion of the shot depends on the individual.
Shooters such as JJ that require a full jump and release at the pinnacle of the jump have to adjust to a quicker and less strenuous form during the contest to accommodate the timer as well as the physical pace throughout the contest. Conversely shooters that can shoot flat footed in a warm-up stance or free throw stance usually have a better chance of advancing deep if they get hot.
I'm looking at zach lavine +450 to win based on some quotes and questions he had about trying to adjust to a standing shot for the contest. Given his home court in Chicago and the fact that he was snubbed from the all Star game I think this is a good spot. Couple all of this with the fact that he has adjusted his game over the years from strictly a leaper to a multifaceted scorer, I think he can learn and adjust enough to win this.
If all else fails I think an anti logic approach given plus odds would spice the event up. Take the center or big man in the skills contest, the former dunk champ in the 3 point contest and the only white guy in the dunk contestComment -

I was actually considering Lavine too though. He's got a quick release, he's very clutch and of course the home court has to help even if just the familiarity
And even though this probably has almost no effect, I still thought it was funny from Bulls clown coach
