SEA - WR D.K. Metcalf Needs Knee Surgery

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Tom Pelissero writes: "D.K. Metcalf needs knee surgery, per Pete Carroll. Don't think he'll be out long."

"Metcalf's injury happened a few days ago. Carroll said doctors have a clear look on the MRI. Think it'll be a really quick recovery. No details on type of surgery. I asked if Metcalf has shot for Week 1 -- Carroll just repeated they're very optimistic."

This was a surprise dropped by Carroll late Sunday night. Stay tuned to see what exactly the team is thinking and how long he might be out.

OAK - WR Antonio Brown skips practice amid helmet dispute

Source: Las Vegas Review Journal - Myles Simmons

Oakland Raiders WR Antonio Brown wasn't at practice Sunday, Aug. 18, because he's upset about his ongoing helmet issue with the NFL. General manager Mike Mayock said the team has 'exhausted all avenues' and it's time for Brown to be 'all in or all out.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Just when you thought it was all over. The team hopes that Brown is ready and willing to play when Week 1 of the regular season gets here. The drama continues when it comes to Brown's helmet, but the team feels his feet are good enough to practice on when he returns. Who knows when that actually will be.

NYJ - Le'Veon Bell could sit out preseason

    Source: SNY - Nick Wojton

New York Jets RB Le'Veon Bell hasn't played in the team's first two preseason games, and head coach Adam Gase is noncommital about Bell playing in the third. 'We'll kind of see how next week goes,' Gase said Friday, Aug. 16. 'He's played a lot of football. And I like where he's at right now. I love how he's working. If I feel like there's a need to play him next week, we will. If he has a good week of practice and it's not worth it for us to get him out there, then we won't.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Bell can get out there for a Jets debut in the preseason. If Bell doesn't play in Week 3 of the preseason (the dress rehearsal for the regular season), then there's little chance of him playing in Week 4 when starters typically rest.

NE - WR Josh Gordon placed on non-football injury list

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

New England Patriots WR Josh Gordon was placed on the Non-Football Injury list Sunday, Aug. 18, upon his conditional reinstatement.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is basically just a procedural move for the Patriots and was not unexpected. Gordon has been reinstated but the team wants to clear some room for him and will use the NFI list to get him some time to get used to being with the team again. When healthy and motivated, Gordon has lots of upside and ability. With Gordon reinstated, Fantasy GMs can grab him as a flex play at a current ADP of WR46 (10.03) in 12-team PPR leagues.

WAS - QB Case Keenum heading toward Week 1 start

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Washington Redskins QB Case Keenum is on track to the be the Week 1 starter under center, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter Sunday, Aug. 18. Head coach Jay Gruden said Colt McCoy(leg) may not be ready to return from a broken leg until 'two or three weeks into the season.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No surprise here. Keenum should open the season as the starter but Washington should turn things over to 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins at some point. While Keenum is a 'bridge' quarterback, Haskins is the franchise quarterback of the future. He'll start soon enough.

TEN - Boston Globe: Tennessee QB job not settled?

Source: The Boston Globe - Ben Volin

Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota isn't a lock to open the season as the team's starter, according to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe. He says even if Mariota does beat out offseason addition Ryan Tannehill, he will have a short leash.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No offense to the Volin, but we put more stock in the Titans beat writers than we do the Boston Globe when it comes to the Tennessee QB situation. There are quite a few people close to the team who feel Mariota is a lock to start Week 1. Although this kind of "uncertainty with Mariota" talk seems to be gaining a little traction. We would be very surprised if Mariota is not the Week 1 starter. But it's also likely true he could get a quick hook if he struggles during the regular season.

NE - WR Dontrelle Inman has request for release granted

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The New England Patriots granted WR Dontrelle Inman's request to be released Sunday, Aug. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The writing has been on the wall for Inman at Patriots camp. With Josh Gordon getting reinstated by the league, Inman's chances of making the 53-man roster in New England were slim and none. Now, the veteran receiver gets a chance to latch on with a new team with a better opportunity.

NYG - WR Sterling Shepard provides positive update

    Source: Giants.com - Dan Salomone

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard (thumb) said Sunday, Aug. 18, his thumb has healed pretty fast and he is 'feeling good.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Shepard is out of his non-contact jersey but he's not out of the splint for his thumb. "I wouldn't say I'm all the way back, but I'm pretty close. I'm where I need to be." Shepard said.

GB - TE Jimmy Graham leaves after injury

    Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers TE Jimmy Graham (finger) ran off the field Sunday, Aug. 18, after appearing to dislocate his finger, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

No update on Graham here. He did not return to practice and we'll know more about the severity of this injury when the team releases more information. Some practice reporters called this a 'jammed' finger which sounds less serious than a dislocated finger even though it could be the same thing.

IND - Jonathan Williams suffered broken rib

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Indianapolis Colts RB Jonathan Williams (chest) was diagnosed with a broken rib Sunday, Aug 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams has talent as a runner but has not been able to stick on any team's roster for that long. He's been banged up a bit during his pro career. The rib injury isn't believed to be a long-term issue.

JAX - RB Ryquell Armstead could play Thursday

Source: The Athletic - Phillip Heilman

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Ryquell Armstead (concussion) is on the last day of the NFL's concussion protocol, according to head coach Doug Marrone Sunday, Aug. 18. Armstead could play in the team's third preseason game Thursday, Aug. 22.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We're excited to see Armstead out there on the field. He's got explosive playmaking ability and could be the primary backup to the oft-injured Leonard Fournette.

TB - Dare Ogunbowale locking down RB3 job

Source: The Athletic - Greg Auman

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Dare Ogunbowale 'seems solidly entrenched' as the team's third running back, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic Sunday, Aug. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Now we just need to see if Peyton Barber or Ronald Jones emerges as the lead back. Ogunbowale was working with the first-team offense during Sunday's practice, but head coach Bruce Arians said that was largely because Jones was dealing with knee soreness.

BUF - TE Tyler Kroft moving toward return

Source: The Athletic - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills TE Tyler Kroft (foot) is 'moving in the right direction' in his recovery from foot surgery, according to head coach Sean McDermott Sunday, Aug. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kroft was signed to a three-year, $18.75 million contract earlier this offseason. The veteran could be in the mix for the No. 1 tight end position but he's far behind in the competition. McDermott didn't provide a timeline for Kroft's return to the field but added he has been working on his own behind the scenes.

DAL - TE Jason Witten dealt with jitters

    Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he experienced some jitters Saturday, Aug. 17, as he made his return to live action for the first time since ending his one-year retirement. Witten caught one pass for 10 yards in the Cowboys' preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams. 'A year away from the game, all the work to get back here since March, getting in shape, getting your body ready, having an opportunity, I know I've got a lot to prove,' Witten said. 'It wasn't perfect. I thought we're on schedule with the things I want to work on. Able to get a third-down conversion. Dak showed he had the confidence on that. Some of the other things in the passing game, running game, I felt good with. It's always tricky when you're coming back out here ... so the jitters were real. A lot of work to get back to here, but it felt good.'

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's...interesting a veteran like Witten would deal with jitters. He's got a ton of experience and should shake off any nervous feelings quickly.

WAS - QB Colt McCoy saw specialist about injury

    Source: ESPN.com - John Keim

Washington Redskins QB Colt McCoy (leg) said Sunday, Aug. 18, that he has visited a foot specialist to have his injured right leg examined as he's had trouble getting a full push off the leg when passing.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy is the No. 3 quarterback for Washington and has no shot of moving up the depth chart before the start of the regular season. McCoy said there has been no setback, but there's still no timetable when he'll be 100 percent.

BAL - WR Miles Boykin sits out practice

    Source: WNST.net - Luke Jones

Baltimore Ravens WR Miles Boykin (unknown) was among the players missing practice Sunday, Aug. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We like the rookie wide receiver in dynasty formats and will watch for more information to be released. No reason was immediately given for Boykin's absence.

PHI - PHI backup QB situation somewhat unsettled

Source: The Athletic - Zach Berman

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said no decision has been made on whether QB Josh McCown or QB Nate Sudfeld (wrist) would be the team's second quarterback once Sudfeld's broken left wrist has fully healed.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sudfeld is a tall pocket passer and we've always appreciated his skill set in deep dynasty formats. McCown is the seasoned veteran who gives the Eagles quality depth if starter Carson Wentz is banged up again.
