Its a smart move for the Phillies, Bruce's style of hitting for power should play well in Citizens ball park and Nick Williams has been trash, he'll go back to the minors now.

Its a good deal for Seattle too, Bruce is due 12 million this year and next year, they are dumping his salary because they won't make the playoffs, the salary dump is why they aren't getting anything good in return.

21 million over 2 years for a guy batting .212 isn't really that great.

He'll hit better than .212 in Citizens ball park against national league pitching, its not a horrible number, but not great either.

Phillies will receive about $18MM from Seattle to cover the majority of Bruce’s remaining salary.

Jay Bruce is just the start of a Seattle fire sale. The Mariners are looking to deal almost every veteran on their roster, sources tell ESPN, and have shown a willingness to eat significant money in doing so. In the Bruce trade, Seattle guaranteed Philadelphia 87% of money owed.

"Phillies will assume the bulk of Jay Bruce's remaining $21.5 million in his contract when the #Mariners' Jay Bruce trade is finalized today. No team was willing to absorb as much money as the Phillies during their trade talks involving Bruce."

they are shopping now for the right sucker to take edwin encarnacion off their hands even though he is in the last year of that bloated contract it is 10m they can save by getting rid of this albatross. however just about every gm is aware that this hr or nothing player can't really help them all that much. but someone may be desperate enough if seattle eats some of the money.

Agree news was leaked few days ago but Bruce is NOT bench player, most likely larger role of platoon (vs. righties) with Kingery.
