Sports related injuries and pain killer addictions.. Let's hear your story..
This is my story - It is sports related..

Always a good healthy athlete, got Staph in my early 30's in my arm. Rolling on a mat probably. I started taking Advil not knowing what it was and thinking it would go away, it did start to go away naturally which the doctor said was surprising to see but one area got really infected.. I waited though before going to the doctor.. A puss balloon formed on my upper forearm.. I got a fever and then went to the ER..

I was diagnosed and shot up with Morphine which was the best drug I ever experienced still to this day in my life to drain the infection in my arm. I was floating on cloud nine with that Morphine shot no lie. The infection was then sliced and drained and I was given a bottle of Vicodin then after to help me sleep and ease the pain in my ruined arm. My arm was sliced and swollen big time. Stitches too. It hurt..

Sure enough I was loving those Vicodin pills after a week of taking them a couple times a day. Was drinking them with beer in the end which intensified the highs. When the bottle ran out I was bummed. .. Was thinking of getting more on the streets because I was addicted, I could have got them too.. Fought the urge and won. Never took another Vicodin in my life since..

True story and I look back now and think WOW!!!! Addictions are a biiiitch and you can get hooked really easy. Even straight athletes that never took hard drugs.. Never tried Opioids and never will. Can't even imagine how addictive those are????

I'm allergic to Morphine.... I get the shakes immediately

Vicodin... I guess I'm allergic to that as well.... I start hallucinating within minutes.

Best every drug I had was after back surgery.... Tylenol 3 with Codeine... knocked the pain right out.... felt the most soothing effect ever. I can see why they are addicting and most doctors won't give you a refill.

Lol.. I try to make an honest thread about addiction and then get clowned by my boys.. I still love you guys.. Come others tell your story..

Opioids killing America today!!!.. Some Doctors are legal drug dealers, they know the drugs they prescribe are absolutely addictive!!! .. Pro sport athletes are not immune either..

                      Motorcycle wreck

Oxy for 10 years, at my peak I was buying extras and taking between 100-200mg/day. Most I ever remember taking in a day was 240mg.

Sober these days except for some occasional coke and whiskey binges, and a few oxys a month but just like 10-20

I eat/snort the pain killer cause I like them. Not cause of pain.

I had a prescription for oxy after i broke my right collarbone complete break... forget might've been for first 2 or 3 weeks as those are the worst as you can't do anything but wear a sling and they worked well enough... was able to sleep with right arm up on number of stacked pillows as long as i didn't move while asleep

followed the directions and used up the supply and started using regular stuff after that... not one time did i have a "need" for more oxy

so I kinda laughed off the whole "addiction" thing.... but the funny part about that is while off work for couple months THAT is when i was spending way too much time watching sports and decided I pick the winners easily and started looking into gambling

so i avoided one addiction but fell into a much worse addiction... this was back in 2010 of course

i was watching the NBA playoffs and KNEW the Lakers were gonna win it all again... and they did of course in 7 games vs Boston

                                            that's my story

Same for my son. Bike accident and afterward the local doctor prescribed him oxys for more than 6 months. I complained to the health dept and she stopped but then he started buying it illegally. About a year later I got him home and on a methadone program. Took about 18 months of that before he was ok.

He won't touch even mild painkillers now, thankfully.

I had some constant injuries growing up playing hockey and football through high school, then hockey in college. My parents threw the oxys I was prescribed out in high school and I had to live on extra strength aspirin. Looking back I thank them now. Although, my dad got me addicted to sports betting when I was like 16, so it's not all great

I complained to the health dept and she stopped but then he started buying it illegally. About a year later I got him home and on a methadone program. Took about 18 months of that before he was ok.

He won't touch even mild painkillers now, thankfully.
Its hard going through it but we suffer the consequences of our own actions. I can’t even imagine how hard it is to see your kid struggling with it. Pretty gut-wrenching.

Im the same way as your son, now that its part of my past and of course hind-sight is 20/20 but I can see just how fukked up I was on a daily basis, and even when I was taking the prescribed amounts it sapped my motivation. I was a lazy bum. So at this point in my life I stay the fukk away from them at all cost.

Glad to hear he overcame it, its not easy so kudos to you and him. He’s part of the minority, not everyone makes it through

Never tried a drug I didn't like. Addicted to anything that makes me feel good. I used to try and justify addiction. Now I look back and realize just how dumb I was and how selfish I was. Today I am happy sober. I understand how pain killer addiction works and hope anyone afflicted the strength to win yourself back.
