Why is NBA finals start date definite?

It's happened before, but not with both teams sweeping. I've seen the Lakers sweep the WCF and have plenty of rest waiting on the ECF to be decided. THIS is not out of the ordinary.

Obviously because of ads. Advertisers pay big money for new commercials and they pay to debut on specific dates corresponding with the Finals. I mean we are not talking Super Bowl money, but still substantial.

There's a lot to organize, from the media to the advertisers, once the conference finals teams are decided.

Plus, they need time to make T-shirts for both teams as champions. They just send the wrong shirts and hats to Africa, or somewhere.

The earliest start date is 5/30. The latest is in mid June. Only thing set is the earliest date. This is so it overlaps w other sports as little as possible so u get max tv exposure.

I don't mind it, it a side effect of going from 2-3-2 format back to more proper 2-2-1-1-1, went from two coast-to-coast travel days to four.

With that said, if Bucks win in Toronto Saturday, Game 7 Monday would go head-to-head with Stanley Cup Game 1.

Does not change point though of neither league wanting to go head-to-head during each FINALS series.

Not too much of a factor though as days of week of NBA Finals are the same for third or fourth year in a row, ever since going back to 2-2-1-1-1

Saturday night get a lowest ratings for TV because it's the most common night for social events etc

The networks plan for the Finals in advance and they have other programming on, they don't want to have to cancel programs to move the games up.
