Damn, I was hoping he’d finish second in the Preakness and Belmont, only to have a DQ gift him into first.

Trainer Bill Mott, “You hate to win the triple crown this way, but the residual effect of Maximum Security’s foul carried over to the Preakness and Belmont. It was the right decision to place my horse first no matter where he finished in both the Preakness and Belmont too.”

So true. What a loser. Gets gifted the derby which is not on tape and you'll never see the highlight win, because there was none.

Then bails. Such a punk move

Not much excitement anyways since triple just happened again

No diff if he was running. Especially since he had 0 chance

what hurts the sport is median age of players who follow it. what hurts the sport is that all the good 3 yr olds retire to the breeding shed so there are no decent older horses competing. what hurts the sport are the short fields especially in early races causing many to lose interest in betting. what hurts the sport is the 11.00 price for a daily racing form.

Valid Points. Would also add the high rake as well.

It's the High Rake plus the fact that information is so costly. If you look at tracks that have low takeout wagers even small tracks like Kentucky downs they have huge pools....Also information and on track is so expensive serious players are down before placing one bet...That said people esp casual fans love it. Always amazes me to see huge crowds at Arlington park many young too

you can eat off the floor at arlington park but they charge 8.00 just to get in which keeps the riff raff out for the most part. the horse population which was once strong there has diminished due to the all weather surface. kentucky downs does everything right but only race 5 days a year. the cavernous belmont park grandstand which could hold 60,000 and does on belmont stakes day is lucky to get 50 people up there for a weekday card. the rest just mill around outside and out front. most bet at otb's or at home now anyway.

Not sure about NY tracks as I've never been but Arlington, woodbine, keenland and the so cal tracks that I've been too on weekends are very busy with mix of young old family and single gamblers and $2 bettors....problem is marketing is awful...They should do something like a 10 admission gets you a $10 voucher to get into pick 4...tracks like Arlington are happier selling 6$ popcorn then getting a guy to wager $6 into the pools..

The biggest problem in California is the Liberal Democratic establishment. These dumb ass fools raise taxes (especially property taxes) so high that a race track becomes a losing proposition for the owners of the track. There is simply no way that they can pay those ridiculous taxes. So they raise their food and drink prices sky high to try and make up for some of the loss. It does not work. The property is worth much more without a track on it. Then add the ridiculous takeout and you have a major gaming loser.

Arlington Park diversifies the entertainment options to bring in the younger crowd and families. They have a park area with entertainment called, "Party in the Park" with cheap beer and live music to try and draw the college crowd (I think it's Friday/Saturday) and on Sundays they have family friendly entertainment in that area.

They also do a bunch of theme days which helps draw crowds like College Day (free admission with a student ID) and Blackhawks/Bears day.

Im Gold club that's the only reason I ever go as everything is free and the gold room and terrace area reserved is very nice...But those themes days and "party" and "promo days" are very expensive and many that attend dont even wager....I give props to marketing manager to get those crowds but they get an F for getting the promo people to start wagering

I think they may need to expand the down time in between races for that to happen. Couple times I went with a few friends on one of the theme days and it was impossible to cap the races while trying to participate in the festivities in the park only having ~25 minutes in-between races. Finally went one day with a couple of guys who were gamblers and we rented a box and strictly capped and ate/drank in the box and it was much more profitable.

I know a girl that wants to do that Taste at the Track, only good news about those theme days is it gets people to wanna try out a casino or introduce them to sports betting.

Done...taste at track and binnys wine taste are great place to bring girls...Great crowds good looking too...the wine tasting they just give you small amounts ...it's way up in the park area so it's hard to watch the races but lots of action it's expensive though
