That BAA allowed last year is very deceiving considering he allowed an unfathomable .376 BABIP. The whole key for Canning is his walk rate, if his 1,13 BB/9 this year was not a mirage, he'll be fine. The thing is, he was never below 3.12/9 previously.

Some good, some not so good on Canning debut. Good was 6 K vs. 1 BB, meh was 49 strikes vs. 33 balls. Bottom line though is start graded out to excellent 2.79 xFIP, but it was only 4.1 innings so jury still out.

Whatever site that is, remove the bookmark and switch to fangraphs. Just about the only predictive mainstream stat is K/BB ratio, everything else is pretty much useless. With that said, his fangraph is not great either, ergo my 8% below average.
