Liberals can only think short term, so when a conservative says something like "cut entitlements", what they hear is "we want single mothers to suffer". In reality, the entitlements enable the type of behavior that causes suffering, so removing or reducing the enabling is the most effective way to reduce suffering which will increase exponentially if the behavior is enabled and drag down our society along with it.

that is a valid point and I don't think everyone opposed to welfare is opposed to ALL welfare

I think they just want to encourage people to rely on trying to work AND family. not the government for everything first and foremost

my example would be my mom raised me, my brother and sister mostly on her own. she worked hard at a job, got child support from my dad and also got help from my grandparents, mainly by watching over us after school and other times when my mom was working

I think that scenario is better than welfare but if those things are not possible for whatever than yeah I wouldn't want to see a family struggle so welfare should be applicable in certain cases then
