Situational approach to this one gentlemen. Simply, the situation is in conference play, betting the higher rated team on the road in the last game of the two game series when the higher rated team dropped home floor earlier in the season in an ugly to less than stellar fashion.

UMASS lost to La Salle at home a few weeks ago in what was a very close game throughout, even though the scoreboard may not indicate that. Looking deeper, through three quarters of the game, despite La Salle having a strong shooting night from 3 (La Salle shot around 41% that night, 7 points above their season to date average), UMASS was within a bucket after three quarters, only to get out run down the stretch to lose by 9. This game was UMASS’ first conference game of the season, this started UMASS’ conference campaign with a home loss to an inferior opponent. UMASS is coming off a great effort against an excellent Rhode Island team, showing they can hang with a tier 2-3team with ease. UMASS gets their revenge tonight in Philly.

Umass just had a brutal tailspin though. Lost something like 6 straight beginning with Georgia. This UMass team should be better than their record, but it does scare me that they lost to LaSalle at home. Still, the fact that they are laying 1 is a pretty funky line, I could see it happening.

Teams and individuals go through funks that are sometimes hard to explain. Of course it depends but generally I don’t put much stock into funks like the one you just described. I think of it like this, let’s say you’re a scratch golfer and you play a round of golf and you shoot 85, you’re still a scratch golfer. Your next round, you shoot 84, you’re still a scratch golfer. The following week, you shoot 85 again, you’re still a scratch golfer. Just because you had some perfomances that were outliers to your normal performance, you’re still a scratch golfer. The market tends to overreact to these funks you speak of, but I don’t (sometimes to my demise). But the fact of the matter is that it happens, they’re still UMASS and I believe they will play to the level of UMASS’ normal range in the intermediate to long term.

It will vary the sizing of my bet. I think he's one of the few players on La Salle's team that can score efficiently when healthy.
