I’m not big on Martinez but he was better than Baines. The latter two are locks.

can't really compare Martinez to Baines, as Baines go in through the Vet committee being dumb.

doesn't mean all the writers will weaken it further by letting edgar in. He was close last year, and this is his final chance.

          we'll see

Up to 10 (which will never happen). I believe how it works is you have a certain amount of people voting (about 100) and for a player to make it 75% of those people have to vote for them. Each voter has 10 people on their list. Usually only 2 or 3 make it.

From that list of candidates that eidolon posted, if I had a vote I'd give it to Martinez, Rivera and Vizquel. Martinez is a little tough because for the most part he was a DH which means he only played half the game. However, it is a legitimate position, and if the American League teams have a full time player at that position, the player should not be excluded.
Regarding Rivera--for a lot of years, while ESPN and others were preaching his greatness, I had the mentality that a save is a pretty watered down stat compared to years ago. And while I still believe that, Rivera was closing out games and racking up those saves at a ridiculously high rate. We see it all the time now--a guy becomes an "elite" closer, does it for two, maybe three years, and then is back to pitching middle relief.
Vizquel--he is the kind of player that one had to be seeing his games on a regular basis. The guy became a decent enough hitter, but on defense--absolutely the best ever. His defensive stats don't show that, but he would never lead the league in fewest errors because one can't get credited with an error if one can't get to the ball. Vizquel's range and arm saved tons of runs over the course of every season. I'd put him in first ballot, but honestly, I don't know if he will ever get in.

Mussina has 70 more wins than Halladay

He deserves to get in- comparable to Jack Morris

Halladay is not a HOF player

Martinez as a DH is not a HOF player. His #s had he played a position yes...

Sad to see Bonds & Clemens & Sosa not get in.... they are HOF regardless of 'stuff'. They were face of game for 2 decades

Out of those three, Sosa was only good when on the juice. Bonds and Clemens were good without it.

In person bonds was a jackass. But guy would only get 1 pitch at bat and he made the most of it. Now juice helped some guys. Notice when they started checking danny graves was horrible as opposed to bad when he was supposedly on it. My buddies and i used to argue about aaron boone. His calves were bigger than most guys hammies. Back to bonds. Even if a guy hits the juice. Doesn't mean he can hit a curve. Sosa and mcguire saved baseball during that majical season.
