Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels declined an opportunity to meet with the Bengals regarding their head coaching job, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com (on Twitter) hears. McDaniels, who famously flip-flopped on the Colts last year, is still in the running for jobs elsewhere.

Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor is the Cincinnati Bengals' top choice to be their next head coach, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.

The Bengals would like to hire Taylor, 35, after Los Angeles' season ends, sources said. Because the Rams are still in playoffs, they can't negotiate a contract.

Taylor was the offensive coordinator for the University of Cincinnati in 2016, and sources said he would like to return to the city.

Taylor would replace Marvin Lewis, who parted ways with the Bengals after the season, ending a 16-year tenure.

A former star quarterback at Nebraska, Taylor began his NFL coaching career with the Miami Dolphins as a quarterbacks coach in 2012, helping to develop Ryan Tannehill, and took over offensive-coordinator duties during the 2015 season.

After spending a year with the Bearcats, Taylor returned to the NFL with the Rams under Sean McVay, for whom he served as assistant wide-receivers coach in 2017 before shifting to quarterbacks this season.

With Taylor overseeing Jared Goff, the Rams went 13-3 and ranked fifth in the NFL this season with 282 passing yards per game.

Marvin Lewis currently finds himself out of NFL coaching for the first time in 27 years, but as of right now he’s not missing it one bit.

Lewis, whose tenure as Cincinnati Bengals head coach ended in January after 16 seasons and seven playoff appearances, was on CBS Sports radio with Zach Gelb recently and was asked whether he’ll coach in the NFL again.

“I don’t think so. I’m fine,” Lewis said.

          Does he miss the NFL?

          “I do not,” he said.

Lewis certainly isn’t the first coach or player to say they don’t miss the league just a few months removed from retiring, resigning or being fired, so his feelings could always change.

But for now he certainly seems done.

Expected to have a chance at multiple NFL HC jobs, Marvin Lewis landed his first known interview of this hiring period. The former Bengals head coach interviewed for the Texans’ HC position, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL.com report (via Twitter). The Texans announced the interview took place.

Currently the Sun Devils’ co-defensive coordinator on Herm Edwards‘ staff, Lewis surfaced on the NFL radar — to some degree — last year upon meeting with the Cowboys about the job that went to Mike McCarthy. Mike Zimmer also offered his former boss an assistant job in 2019. But a genuine Lewis push back to an NFL coaching gig now appears on tap.

The Texans have already interviewed former Lions and Colts HC Jim Caldwell for the job and have been connected to Seahawks OC Brian Schottenheimer as well. Eric Bieniemy, however, has loomed as a Deshaun Watson favorite — though, the quarterback is also believed to want OC Tim Kelly to stay — and has appeared to be on Houston’s radar for several weeks. Lewis has far more HC experience than both and has more such service time than almost anyone currently coaching in the NFL. It will be interesting to see how many interviews the current Pac-12 assistant lands over the next few weeks.

We will see how sincere leagues and colleges were while jumping on the social justice bandwagon. It was probably all talk.

I think Marvin Lewis is competent, way better than Gase and Lynn.

Marvin Lewis (no disrespect intended) is what he is...Just a mediocre coach...not good, not bad, but just your average run of the mill coach...he is basically a .500 coach...and his career postseason record is terrible (0 - 7).

I thought the league was trying to hire people because of their race? How is this guy fired?
