They gave the women's award to Serena Williams for losing 2 majors. Simona Halep actually won one and lost the finals of another major but the angle on Serena is that she did it after having a kid.

And the Serena one was worse. The AP's explanation focused on her returning as a Mum after a hard delivery and afterbirth and reaching the final in two Slams. I adore her and always have and this totally isn't her fault as she obviously doesn't choose the winner but a gazillion parents have faced that and return to work and kick arse. And that's with no help or maybe they're a single parent or they have a child or partner who needs a bit more care and/or attention. Most with nowhere near the money she has.

They are making a mockery of the awards. My daughters are forbidden from watching Serena play tennis. I spent countless hours to teach them to respect the umpires and referees when they play softball and soccer and here she goes on national TV trying to destroy 10 years of parenting. And they reward her with an award for that childish, no disrepect to children, behavior.

Look at this as a teaching opportunity. Let your daughters know that life isn't always fair. Especially in the very high areas of sport people are given awards based upon politics rather than merit.

Then you could tell the that it works that way sometimes in the workplace as well. Someone will get a job or a raise who isn't necessarily the best person for the job. Instead they are ass-kissers who get the job or maybe they get the job based upon their identity rather than talent.
