The beginning of the week I made a post called minor bowl games. I told the story of a couple of kids, when I booked, who had an unusual amount of success in college football bowls. One day I asked them how are you selecting these games, and their reply was in the minor early bowls we take the favorites, and in the later major bowls we primarily take the dog.

I thought not much of it until this year when I remembered it and posted it. Now it could just be purely coincidental but as you wrote the favorites are killing it, the question is now when to decide the major bowls are starting. I rarely believe in theories like this one, but who kows for sure. I think it is simply luck, but I will follow it for at least the rest of this year.

Seems bowl season/playoffs is either all chalk or all dogs. Stopped betting it after Deshaun Watson backdoor cover first time they played Alabama.

I disagree with "more significant"....For some of these "lesser" games their still is the human factor...
Kids playing their last game/ parents getting to watch
programs...happy as hell to be going somewhere
some teams proving a point........
who's watching? degenerate gamblers.......... friends family of those non top tier teams......

i don't have the data in front of me, but i think that's right i.e. this is a reversal so far.

an interesting thing i saw is that the first bowl saturday with lots of games seems to go heavily favorite or underdog.

Reason why dogs fail to win this year is the crowds. Most bowls have a lot of empty seeds and the sponsors have weird names like Garaballa and Cheributi Bowl or something. Very confusing for fans.

If the game yesterday did not call for rain, there would have been a FEW more fans.....not saying it would be a sellout.....sad part is....those are the game i'd LOVE to be at.....walk right up to row 1A lol..hell could prob jump and get on the sidelines

all these as to why it's different this year............. but the reason has to be something that is different from the last few years. no one cared about early bowl games the last 5 years.

i will say that early bowl season is progressively getting less competitive (i mean more like an exhibition, not "competitive" as per close score). but that's very gradual

i looked at one thing........ team winning % (unfortunately it will include the bowl game result, now that i think about it, it won't).

anyway,

dividing line is 62%... below that WP, teams are 1-6 ATS. above it, 7-2 ATS....

recent past years, the mediocre bowl teams have been generally very good ATS

previous 3 bowl seasons, teams with WP < 55% = 32-23-1 or 58.2% ATS

It's so sad. Some of these Bowl games lose a lot of money. Only players parents bother to attend. You can't have a bowl game with only 3,000 fans at the stands.
