It's best to keep that risk flat and not bet "to win" as that will change the breakeven, usually not for the best.

You can take a bankroll from $1K to $100K and you only need to change your bet size a dozen times, any more could be costly.

Playing with partial Kelly is dangerous for most bettors, especially if they are betting prices or moneylines outside of -115 or so.

Keeping the vig low and prices close to even money are probably the best way to go if you are partially staking.
